Dr. Marcus Schulmerich, CFA, FRM

Dr. Marcus Schulmerich is the founder and Managing Director of PECUNDUS with 18 years of investment experience in the asset management industry.

Teaching Experience:
  • Since 2005: Lecturer at the EBS Business School in Germany for derivatives, portfolio & risk management, alternative investments and financial engineering.
  • 2008 – 2016: Instructor for asset and risk management trainings for SSGA clients in Europe, the Middle East and South America, including Middle East Sovereign Wealth funds and Central Banks.
  • 2006 – 2016: Instructor for internal asset and risk management trainings at SSGA.
  • 2007 – 2009: Lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich for portfolio and risk management.
  • 2005 – 2008: Lecturer at FOM University in Munich and Frankfurt for derivatives, portfolio and risk management.
  • 2008: Guest lecturer on fixed income portfolio management at the Technical University Munich (TUM).


Professional Experience:
  • Since 2016: Head of Fund Product Management at Deka Bank, responsible for all retail and institutional fund launches across equities, fixed income and alternative investments.
  • 2011 – 2016: Head of SSGA’s AQE strategy team in EMEA.
  • 2006 – 2016: Global Portfolio Strategist at SSGA in Europe, Middle East and Africa for active quant equity strategies, smart beta equity strategies and quantitative multi-strategy managed futures hedge funds.
  • 2003 – 2006: Senior Product Manager at PIMCO for active fixed income and commodity portfolios.
  • 1996 – 2003: Financial Engineer and Risk Manager at Commerzbank Asset Management (now Allianz Global Investors).


Academic Education:
  • Doctoral degree "summa cum laude" in Finance from the EBS Business School in Wiesbaden/Germany in co-operation the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management in Cambridge/USA.
  • Research Assistant for doctoral studies at the Harvard Business School in Boston/USA.
